South-East Governors Deliberate on Security and Economy of the South-East

In their last meeting, the South-East Governors Forum among other matters deliberated on issues bordering on Health, Security and Economy of the South-East in particular and Nigeria in general. See what they discussed!

On 24th May 2020, the South-East Governors Forum met in Enugu. Amongst other, they deliberated on issues bordering on Health, Security and Economy of the South-East in particular and Nigeria in general.

On the Economy, the Governors agreed to setup appropriate state committees to work with the Federal Government, the World Bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) on their various programmes aimed at boosting the Economy, and with special attention to Agriculture, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Solid Minerals.

The need to setup a South-East Stabilization Fund; and to link all South-Eastern States capitals to the Federal Government's pipeline programme running from Imo State to Lagos State, were also discussed.

On the ongoing rehabilitation work at the Akanu-Ibiam International Airport Enugu, the Governors were hopeful that the airport will soon reopen to commercial activities; and in accord with the Federal Government's COVID-19 containment programme.

On the 2nd Niger Bridge Project, The Governors expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction work done so far by Julius Berger.

On Security, the Forum agreed that all South-Eastern States Houses of Assembly set in motion modalities for the enactment of State Security Laws, in accord with the South East Joint Security Programme.
